Regina Birner is Chair of Social and Institutional Change in Agricultural Development at the University of Hohenheim, Germany. Her research focuses on policies, governance and institutions that are essential for global food security and agricultural development.

Ingo Grass

Ingo Grass is Professor for Ecology of Tropical Agricultural Systems at the University of Hohenheim. He aims to contribute to the development of farming practices that promote agricultural productivity, while sustaining biodiversity and ecosystem services.

Frédéric Baudron

Frédéric Baudron is a System Agronomist working as a Senior Scientist for the Agricultural Research Centre for International Development (CIRAD) in France. He has previously worked as a Principal Scientist for the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre (CIMMYT).

Thomas Daum

Thomas Daum is an Associate Professor in Environmental Social Science at the School of Global Studies at the University of Gothenburg. His research focuses on sustainable agricultural transformation and natural resource management in Africa and Asia.

Hannah Kania is a Biology PhD student at Duke University who loves biodiversity. Her passion lies in using genetics to inform conservation of Earth’s flora and fauna.

Anuja Vartak

Anuja is a biologist interested in ecology and conservation and is especially fascinated by the complex world of ants. She loves to communicate science through her writing and currently works as the Communications Head with Ecology Research Explained (EcoRE)

Maia D'Souza

Maia Lisa D’Souza is a biology major at IISER Mohali, interested in cultures (both human and animal!). She studies marine animal behaviour, communication & conservation.

Simon Pooley is the Lambert Lecturer in Environment (Applied Herpetology) at Birkbeck University of London. He studies human-wildlife conflicts and coexistence, in particular with crocodilians. 

 

Bhavya Iyer

Bhavya Iyer has itchy feet that take her in search of wild landscapes and dark coffee. An alumnus of the Wildlife Institute of India, she has an interest in carnivore ecology and environmental policy.

 

Udita Bansal

Udita Bansal studies ecology and evolution of reptiles at Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru. She is fascinated by the evolutionary ecology of colour variation in reptiles.

 

Yuvan Aves

Yuvan is a writer, educator, naturalist, and activist based in Chennai. He writes at the intersection of ecology, education, and human consciousness. He is the author of two books and the recipient of the M.Krishnan Memorial Nature Writing Award. He is currently travelling and documenting stories of biodiversity, people and change along the Indian coastline.

Daniel J. Read

Daniel J. Read is an environmental anthropologist who uses interdisciplinary and collaborative approaches to study conservation in working landscapes. Through his research, he aims to systematically describe how people view, act towards, and are affected by conservation policy in order to suggest new directions for conservation grounded in people’s lived experience. He has done research with Adivasi people in central India on how their encounters with wildlife related to their perceptions of the legitimacy of conservation, and with farmers and conservation professionals in the Chesapeake Bay watershed, USA to build more effective engagement tools. At Current Conservation, he looks forward to working with writers who want to bring the grounded realities of conservation to life for a wide audience.

 

Simone Stevenson

Simone Stevenson is a current PhD student at Deakin University whose research focuses on evidence-based decision making for global conservation problems.

Manisha Kumari

Manisha Kumari is a light-hearted researcher working in Arunachal Pradesh. She enjoys photographing stories from indigenous communities but sulks at the idea of writing them.

Rinki Sarkar

Rinki Sarkar is a solitary researcher intoxicated by mountain landscapes. She also enjoys teaching and sharing her field insights only to experience the sparkle of spell-bound eyes.

Conservation has made a place in her life in different ways – sometimes, in how she invokes the ecology of living into her work, and many times, in how she engages with the world.
