Editor’s Note

In this issue of CC Kid’s we have three pieces, all with an ocean theme. First, Mahira Kakajiwala writes about her work with hermit crabs. Mahira gives us a window into their home-lives, which in the case of these crabs, they carry on their backs. Then we have the story of Nerin, a sea turtle who is fighting for her life, in danger due to ocean plastics. Join her in her fight. And for regular readers, you may remember Dr Phil Doherty, who in issue 10.2 (2016) told us about his research on basking sharks. In the current issue’s Day in the Life, we meet Phil again as he updates us on the sharks and also on his new adventures as a marine biologist. The oceans cover 71% of the Earth’s surface and contain 97% of all the water on the planet. These three stories take us into this vast, but as yet still mysterious realm.
