Jonathan Barzdo

Jonathan Barzdo is an independent consultant, focusing primarily on issues relating to the use of wild animals and plants and regulation of wildlife trade. He supports governments, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, institutions and companies to ensure that such trade is legal, sustainable and well managed. His work also encompasses organizational governance related to conservation management.

He was formerly: Deputy Secretary General of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands; Chief of Governing Bodies of the Secretariat of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES); consultant for the European Commission, where he drafted the regulations that implement CITES in the European Union; Head of the Wildlife Trade Monitoring Unit of the World Conservation Monitoring Centre; and Director of TRAFFIC International. Earlier in his career, he was a wildlife consultant, warden of a bird hospital, a zoo keeper, and a genetics research assistant.

Catarina C. Ferreira

Catarina is a conservation biologist with a PhD in Biology specialized in Terrestrial Ecology, Epidemiology and Wildlife Management from Castilla-La Mancha University, Spain. She has dedicated her career to advancing our understanding of the impacts human-induced stressors have on biodiversity, and has used the findings of her research to inform species-at-risk conservation initiatives in Europe and North America. Her almost 20 years of experience in the international biodiversity conservation community across different sectors have served her well to understand how biodiversity knowledge needs to be translated to effect change. She is delighted to join the Editorial Board of CC, as part of her ongoing efforts to improve science communication among conservationists and mainstream biodiversity conservation across sectors through more interdisciplinary collaborations.

Maia D'Souza

Maia Lisa D’Souza is a biology major at IISER Mohali, interested in cultures (both human and animal!). She studies marine animal behaviour, communication & conservation.

Tammy C

Tammy completed her Ph.D. in Environmental Studies at Antioch University New England where her research focused on the potential direct and indirect effects of human activities on the endangered African painted dog. Her passion for wildlife conservation, writing, and art are leading her to find new ways of integrating science and art to promote human-wildlife coexistence and sustainability. She wrote Painted Dog Pursuit during her PhD program to raise awareness and funds for painted dog research and conservation and looks forward to working on similar projects in the future. She is excited to join Current Conservation’s editorial team to support conservation and science communication

Geri Eileen Unger

Geri Unger is a consultant with TerrAqua Environmental Science and Policy, and Adjunct Faculty at University of Maryland Global College. She was the Executive Director of the Society for Conservation Biology, a global membership organization, where she facilitated The Strategic Plan 2016-2020, and global diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. She was the Director of Education and Research for the Cleveland Botanical Garden, and has worked at the New England Aquarium, Funders’ Forum on Environment and Education, and Environmental Law and Policy Center. With a degree in environmental biology, she has worked on large landscape planning projects, educational innovation in environmental science, fisheries management, and biological assessment of biodiversity and restoration options in diverse ecosystems on multiple continents.

Anala Tanmaya Rao

Anala Tanmaya Rao is a Visual Communication Designer  from Srishti School of Art Design and Technology. She specialises in illustration and has a minor in creative writing.

Simon Pooley is the Lambert Lecturer in Environment (Applied Herpetology) at Birkbeck University of London. He studies human-wildlife conflicts and coexistence, in particular with crocodilians. 

 

Bhavya Iyer

Bhavya Iyer has itchy feet that take her in search of wild landscapes and dark coffee. An alumnus of the Wildlife Institute of India, she has an interest in carnivore ecology and environmental policy.

Ragini Chawla is an artist based in Glasgow. She recently graduated with an MFA degree from the Glasgow School of Art. With painting at the core of her interests, she is interested in illustrations for children.

Yuvan is a writer, educator, naturalist, and activist based in Chennai. He writes at the intersection of ecology, education, and human consciousness. He is the author of two books and the recipient of the M.Krishnan Memorial Nature Writing Award. He is currently travelling and documenting stories of biodiversity, people and change along the Indian coastline.
